Z-Man's Quest

About Z-Man's Quest

Z-Man's Quest is a technology and gaming desk for people who like to understand the machines in their lives before they buy, switch or tinker. We write about the screens in the living room, the devices in your pocket and bag, the software that keeps creeping into everyday work and the games that eat up a free evening. The common thread is curiosity with a practical end: every article should leave you able to make a better decision on your own.

What you will find here

  • Television and streaming. Our biggest archive explains internet television, picture quality, home networks and the habits of viewers in many countries. Start with how internet-based TV works or browse TV.
  • Gadgets and computers. Laptops, backup power, file conversion tools and the small accessories that change how a desk works, collected under Gadgets and Computers.
  • PC games and virtual reality. Graphics settings, hardware care and headsets, including our explainer on ray tracing.
  • AI, search and social media. What new tools actually do, how websites get found and how people talk to each other online.
  • Cars, kitchen and home tech. Tyres, oil, smart tariffs and countertop appliances, explained without a sales pitch.
  • World explainers. Services, systems and rules from other countries that readers keep asking about.

How the desk works

Four writers share the work under pen names. Each of us looks after a few beats, but every draft is read by at least one other person before it goes live, and nobody is allowed to mark their own homework. We are hobbyists and long-time tinkerers rather than certified engineers, so we write about what we can explain clearly and check against official documentation, manufacturer guidance or our own hands-on testing.

Some pages on the site were written in cooperation with companies whose services they mention. Those articles go through the same editing as everything else, and the decision to buy anything stays entirely yours. You can read the details of our editing routine on Our Review Workflow.

What we try to avoid

We do not invent benchmarks, quote studies we have not read or promise that a gadget will change your life. When a topic touches money, law or health, we keep the advice general and point you towards a qualified professional for your own situation. When something we wrote has gone out of date, we update the article and the date at the top changes with it.

Getting in touch

Questions, corrections and ideas for future articles are welcome. The quickest route is the contact page, which explains what to include so we can help. If you would rather know who is behind each beat first, the writers introduce themselves on The Quest Team.

Overheard while editing

What the four of us keep saying

Lines that come up again and again when drafts are passed around.

  • If the router is in a cupboard, the problem probably is too. — Zinovia

  • Turn on one graphics option at a time, or you will never know which one helped. — Fintan

  • Read the safety page before the recipe page. — Wendelin

  • A new feature has to solve a problem someone actually has. — Bartolo

Who signs the entries

Four writers, four corners of the desk

Each of us looks after a few beats, and every draft is read by someone else before it goes live.

  • Zinovia

    TV, streaming and VPNs

Chases buffering back to its source, usually somewhere between the router and the screen.

  • Fintan

    PC games, VR and computers

Tests every graphics option separately and takes notes on how each one feels in motion.

  • Wendelin

    Gadgets, kitchen and cars

Reads appliance manuals cover to cover and writes up what they leave unclear.

  • Bartolo

AI tools, search and world explainers

Asks what problem a new tool really solves before writing a word about it.
